A pavilion built, a shift worked, a stage programmed, a van lent, a kitchen scrubbed at midnight. Effort recorded against the edition it belongs to, and the record is what a name comes from.

Nobody has built it yet. So nobody is named.
This page exists to name the communities, volunteers, makers and supporters who build each edition of this festival. The first edition has not happened. The rule for who gets named is published here now, a year early, so anybody deciding whether to spend a year of their life on this knows exactly how that gets recorded.

A recognition scheme written after the fact rewards whoever was standing closest to the person writing it. This one is written first, and the board is held to it.

Nothing on this page is for sale
A sponsor's recognition is set out in the sponsorship agreement and appears where that agreement says. This roll is for people who did the work, and money never buys a line on it.

By year, and never rewritten
Each edition keeps its own roll. A name on the 2027 list stays on the 2027 list whatever happens afterwards, because the list is a record of that year.

You choose how you appear
Full name, first name, the name of your group, or not at all. Volunteer and participant forms ask the question, and the answer is yours to change at any point.

The list is checked with the people on it
Before a roll publishes, everybody on it is sent their own entry to read. Being left off by mistake is the failure this step exists to prevent.
Who the roll is for.
Six groups. Each one gets its own part of the list, because a volunteer's fortnight and a community's year are different kinds of contribution and flattening them helps nobody.

After the first edition, once the record has been checked with everybody on it. Publishing it earlier would mean guessing at who did what.

Every route onto this roll runs through doing something. Four of them are open now, and two open in the winter.
Four doors open today · the roll is assembled from what they record
- Bring a pavilion. The longest lead time and the biggest line on any roll. A community needs about a year to prepare, so this conversation starts first.
- Write an article with us. A community article publishes under the name of whoever checked it, and that byline is a credit that outlives the edition.
- Open a shopfront. Sellers who stand up the first catalogue are recorded with the edition they opened in.
- Take a board seat or a committee. The unglamorous work that decides whether any of the rest happens.
- Volunteer a shift. Intake opens in winter 2027, and every shift worked is recorded against your name in the form you choose.
- Support it. Money, space, a van, a stage, an afternoon of professional time — all of it recorded, none of it sold.

Can I ask to be left off?
Yes, one message, before or after publication. You can also appear as a first name only or under your group's name instead of your own.
Do you name people who volunteered and then had to stop?
Yes. The roll records what was done, and a finished season is beside the point, and most volunteering in this country is somebody fitting it around a job.
Is there a prize or an award attached?
No. A roll of names that everybody on it earned is worth more than a trophy chosen by a committee, and it avoids the argument entirely.
Will the roll say how much a supporter gave?
No amounts against names. Money raised in total appears in the account of the edition, where a funder and a member of the public can both read it.
What if my community pulls out during the year?
Then the roll records the work that was actually done and says nothing more. Withdrawing from a first edition is a legitimate decision and it is not something to be punished with a footnote.

Whoever does the work this year is on it. That is the whole of the qualification.
