Capital Cultures is a free two-day multicultural festival planned for 7–8 August 2027 at LeBreton Flats Park in Ottawa, Ontario, where each community runs its own pavilion and keeps what its counter takes. Permits from the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission are pending.

Ottawa already holds a summer of single-community festivals, and every one of them is worth going to. This one puts the kitchens beside each other for two days and lets a visitor walk the whole city in an afternoon.

An Indian kitchen beside an Italian one makes a Saturday afternoon neither of them could have made alone. A Ukrainian choir two stages from a Colombian band changes what both of them sound like to a stranger. That meeting is the argument for one field, and it is what the permits, the site and a year of work are for.
The construction under it is short enough to say in a line. A community organisation runs its own pavilion — its menu, its programme, its exhibition, its name over the door — and every dollar the counter takes stays with it. The festival carries the site, the permits, the structure, the power, the safety and the crowd. Entry is free at the gate, both days, for everybody who walks up.
The festival scenes on this site are illustrations of a weekend that has not happened yet. The city, the missions, the communities and the work already under way are real.

The community operates the pavilion. The mission stands beside it, as a programme partner sending an artist, an exhibition or equipment, or as a sponsor in the general list. Toronto has the numbers. Montreal has the nightlife. The capital has the world's embassies ten minutes from the field, and nobody has yet put them on one site with the people they represent. How that works, in full.
Global Affairs Canada · resident diplomatic missions accredited in Canada, the great majority of them in Ottawa. It is the one hard number this festival has today.
The size of the first edition.
The visits line is our target for the first edition — the size we are building the pavilion village, the stage and the food and craft row to fill — and the figure for the field at any one time is the crowd that target implies for the site plan. The first measured count comes from the gates in August 2027, published with its method.
